The Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA) is an incorporated body of Heads of independent primary schools throughout Australia.
It is comprised of members whose schools educate over 120,000 children, from Early Learning to 14 years of age.
Currently IPSHA has a membership of more than 380 Full Members, 70 Associate and Life Members and 22 Overseas Members.

Welcome to the website of the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA), previously known as the Junior School Heads’ Association of Australia (JSHAA). IPSHA is an association of independent sector primary and middle school Heads from across Australia. It is a federation of State branches, each branch providing many resources and services for members and their schools, including professional development activities for Heads and their staff, and activities for the students of members’ schools, such as inter-school Saturday team sports, sports carnivals, gymnastics, debating, musical concerts and other cultural events (the offerings vary from state to state).
As the premier Australian association for independent sector primary and middle school Heads, IPSHA is one of the three affiliate associations of the Australian Primary Principals’ Association (APPA), together with those representing the primary school principals of the Government and Catholic sectors. APPA provides a strong and unified voice on matters of primary education in Australia, and IPSHA values its involvement in this important body.
Since its inception in 1952, the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia has provided rich fellowship for its members, and a forum for sharing ideas and strategies vital for the role its members share – namely to provide exemplary educational leadership in our schools.
