One Laptop Per Child
One Laptop per Child (OLPC) Australia is proud to announce it has been selected as the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia's (IPSHA) Charity of Choice.
OLPC Australia's mission is to provide educational opportunities to the 400,000 remote Australian children disadvantaged through their isolation – the majority of which are Indigenous. These children lack access to information, not the capacity to learn.
By providing these children with the organisation's purpose built XO laptop, along with a comprehensive training and support program for their teachers, OLPC Australia hopes to close The Gap before it grows larger still.
The XO is a connected and rugged laptop that has been designed with the primary aged student and learning in mind. With more than 50 educational activities pre-loaded onto the device, the XO works to engage the student in the process of learning and connect them to a wider body of knowledge.
OLPC Australia does more than just deploy XO laptops to kids; it provides a comprehensive and sustainable solution to remote educational disadvantage that aims to stop systemic cycles of disadvantage and empower children to expand their future.
The charity is reaching out to schools, Principals and teachers through IPSHA to assist it in bridging the divide between remote and metropolitan Australian children.
By getting involved you are providing your class or school with valuable insights into Australian culture, as well as creating meaningful and fun extra-curricular activities that will have a direct impact on the lives of remote children.
