Welcome to IPSHA New South Wales
Leading primary education is a challenging and fulfilling vocation. Independent schooling in New South Wales is growing, and with it the opportunities for making a difference in the lives of young Australians and their families. IPSHA offers a professional and collegial network committed to providing the support needed for school leaders to meet these challenges and opportunities.
With over 120 members from city, suburban and regional primary and middle schools, the New South Wales Branch of IPSHA has a wide diversity of schools represented. Member schools range from stand alone primary schools to K-12 campuses in both single sex and coeducational settings. All are independent and many reflect a variety of faith based and philosophical missions.
Membership brings many benefits to Primary Heads, their schools and staff. The strength of the association is the willingness and commitment of members to foster collegial support, professional learning and networks for staff and students. We are privileged to have representation on State and National peak associations such as the Board of Studies,Teaching and Educational Standards NSW (BOSTES NSW) and APPA.
Our term meetings are held at a variety of schools and include relevant professional development through keynote speakers, discussion groups and workshops. The Association of Independent Schools provides regular updates of curriculum and political relevance and reports are given from IPSHA committee representatives for APPA, Principals Australia Institute and AITSL.
Annual NSW Branch Country Weekends and Biennial National IPSHA Conferences are an excellent way for members to build collegial friendships and gain valuable professional development. The next Biennial conference will be held in Brisbane in September 2018.
Support networks for staff in member schools are organised through Umbrella Groups. These groups link executive and teaching staff with specialist interests and responsibilities and allow for a rich exchange of ideas and resources through regular meetings and informal networks.
Students in member schools have access to a range of excellent events. Performing Arts Festivals, Debating, Social Issues Expos, Travelling Art Exhibitions, and a wide range of Saturday Sport activities offer students opportunities to share and develop their talents and interests alongside others. Key sport carnivals and trials offer a pathway to CIS for talented students.
IPSHA has a long history of serving education in Australia. Each branch member is a valued part of this network of leaders which both offers wonderful collegiality and support and provides opportunities for involvement in the wider field of policy and influence.
